West Fife Enterprise says farewell to Alan Boyle and welcomes Simon Warr as the new General Manager

Alan Boyle stood down from the role of Chief Executive on 29 April of this year after over 30 years of faithful and distinguished service. During his time Alan was unstinting and unwavering in his mission of delivering a high quality professional training provision for local unemployed people. From its modest beginnings in 1983 - in response to the impact of the closure of coal mines in the West Fife coal mining settlements - WFE went on under Alan's leadership and passion, to become one of the most successful organisations of its kind in Scotland.  Alan continued to strive for excellence and to achieve the best outcomes for WFE beneficiaries. WFE have assisted many families for whom multiple generations have benefited from its provisions. There are many thousands of young people who have gained full and successful careers following their time on the ‘full-journey approach’ pioneered by WFE and whose lives have been transformed for the better. Alan’s success attracted the attention of government ministers and EU Commissioners who visited WFE to see first-hand the training and support provided to participants. Not surprisingly Alan was awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours in 2014.

The WFE board of directors wish to acknowledge the huge contribution Alan has made to the reputation of WFE and its standing in the local community, across Fife, and indeed throughout Scotland. We wish him well in his retirement.

While undoubtedly 'a hard act to follow ' our newly appointed General Manager, Simon Warr is already making his mark with staff and stakeholders alike. Simon took up his post on 4 July and brings a wealth of experience and qualifications in the field of employability services working with clients who are furthest away from the labour market. Importantly, in view of the continuing challenges presented by the vagaries of external funding, and the need to diversify and secure new sources of income, Simon will make an invaluable contribution to the future direction and sustainability of WFE. The board are delighted to welcome Simon to WFE and look forward to supporting him in his role of General Manager.
